Atletico boss Diego Simeone has said his team have the 'priority' when it comes to keeping their best players against interest from some of Europe's elite clubs.
Simeone has led Atletico Madrid to three major honours since he took over at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in 2011.And the 45-year-old believes, in terms of sporting ability, his side is among the top five club teams in the world, helping him keep the best players in Madrid this summer.
Premier league giants Manchester United have been reported to be after Atletico striker Mario Mandzukic this summer, while Chelsea want Antoine Griezmann but face real competition from PSG.
Meanwhile Simeone believes his club can fend off interest from most clubs in Europe but conceded their inability to offer the biggest salaries hinders the the a bit.
The Atleti boss said: “Atlético always had the priority. In addition, there are not many teams who are better in a sporting sense. There aren’t six teams better than us. Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, maybe Chelsea, and then us. Financially we are in the [top] 15,” he said.
